Assign & track tasks
Ask a teammate to do work from a chat without starting AI or transferring control.
Assign a task from a conversation
Open an existing AI chat and select Assign Tasks in the file-manager action area. Type @, choose an eligible teammate from the picker, describe the work, and submit the assignment.
For example: “Please check keyboard navigation and report any remaining issues in this conversation.” Keep the request specific enough that the assignee knows what result to return.
You need room edit access to create an assignment. The assignee must have access to the room, but can be a viewer. If no teammate is available, invite someone with the appropriate access first.
Track and finish work
Assignments appear in Chat tasks for their source conversation and in the assignee’s workspace My tasks. Open the source link to see the relevant room and chat.
Use the status picker to move between To do, In progress, Done, and Cancelled. The assignee, or an authorised creator, can update status. Completed tasks remain available rather than disappearing immediately.
If submission fails, correct the reported issue and retry from the preserved draft. Losing room access can make that room’s tasks unavailable.
Task, review, or handoff?
- Task: records a human assignment. It does not run AI or change the chat driver.
- Teammate review: asks an editor for an outcome against a particular saved version.
- Handoff: transfers control of the AI conversation between turns.
Choose the action that matches the result you need. Marking a task Done is not a code approval or a publish action.
