Terminal availability
Understand when the built-in terminal works and where its commands actually execute.
On the hosted workspace
The terminal panel can be visible even when interactive shell access is disabled. A connected AI runner does not make the hosted terminal a shell on your laptop.
The current terminal implementation runs on the machine serving the web application and accepts only permitted loopback requests. The public hosted workspace therefore does not expose an interactive server shell. Read the panel’s availability message and use your own computer’s terminal when needed.
AI coding tools still run commands through your connected computer as part of their tasks. That execution path is separate from the built-in terminal panel.
In an enabled local installation
When an administrator runs the application locally with terminal access enabled, the panel uses a real PTY rendered with xterm. Use + to create another terminal, select a tab to switch, and use Clear or Ctrl+L to clear the display. Closing a terminal ends that terminal session.
The shell starts in the application’s working directory, not automatically in the selected room repository. Check your current directory before running commands. The Open :port link is a localhost shortcut, not a deployment or preview service for your project.
Do not ask an administrator to expose an unrestricted server terminal publicly. For hosted use, work through your connected AI tool or a terminal on your own machine.
